Physical access to the LRC

  • Accessible parking spaces are available within very close proximity to the LRC.
  • Access to the LRC building is via the automatic doors at the main entrance.
  • The LRC occupies three floors. The Lower Ground and First Floors are accessible via lifts suitable for wheelchairs. Please ask at the Information Desk for assistance with operating either lift.
  • The Information Desk has a lower desk that can be easily accessed by users with wheelchairs. Please come straight to this desk where you will not be required to queue and you will be served by the next available member of staff.
  • Accessible toilets are available a short distance away in the Careers Service building, just past the Dolche Vita café.

To help you make the best possible use of the LRC, we offer the following additional services to St Mary’s students and staff. To make use of any of these services, you should first contact Pat Culshaw, the St Mary's Dyslexia and Disability Co-Ordinator. She will make a referral and provide an initial assessment of your library needs.

Extended loans
We can issue books for longer periods if you need more time to use them effectively. For example, we will issue three-day loan items for a week (subsequent renewals will be for three days).

Book fetching
We can arrange for books to be collected and held for you if you have difficulty accessing the shelves. It would be helpful if you could contact us 24 hours in advance with a list of your requests on:

Others borrowing on your behalf
If you are unable to visit the LRC, you can arrange for a nominated helper (e.g. a relative or support worker) to borrow on your behalf. To set up an arrangement,
please email enquiry@smuc.ac.uk.

Photocopying
If you need to reclaim photocopying expenses as part of your Disabled Students’ Allowance, Information Desk staff can provide a receipt for photocopy cards. The reloader machines issue receipts when cards are topped up.

Facilities

Portable Hearing Induction Loop
Please ask at the front Information Desk if you require this or wish to use it for group discussions in a study room.

Assistive Technology
For information regarding specialist software and hardware designed to support your studies, please see our Dyslexia and Disability Co-Ordinator.
