Council Tax Exemption

Full-time registered students are exempt from Council Tax. To ensure you do not pay Council Tax you will need to apply for a Council Tax Exemption Certificate.

Please download the Certificate Request Form and return this to the Registry who will issue your Certificate. Alternatively, you can return the completed form by email to cumminsj@smuc.ac.uk . If you have elected to collect the Certificate, please allow 3 working days following your request.

If you receive a Council Tax Bill from your local authority, you should forward your Certificate to them quoting your account reference.

PLEASE NOTE that the property you live in may still be liable for council tax if there are one or more adults, over 18, who are not students and living in the property. If you do decide to move in with non-students, make sure they are aware that you are not liable for council tax.
