Studying abroad is a great way to gain international experience, meet new people, learn about a new culture and improve your employability!

St Mary’s Study Abroad programme is open to all students and offers the opportunity to spend a summer abroad at one of our partner universities across the world.

Students on most courses may spend a summer abroad during any year of their study, at one of our partner universities in Asia, Australia and Europe.

The Summer Abroad Programme is open to all students on any level of your course and can be undertaken during any summer of your degree.

You may participate in more than one study abroad programme, though preference will be given to first-time participants if spaces or funding is limited.

Preparing to study abroad

Our helpful staff will support you every step of the way, from learning about your options to settling back in when you return. The Study Abroad team runs information sessions in the autumn spring to introduce the programmes, provide details about the application process and answer your questions about how to start planning for your international experience.

After you’re accepted to study or work abroad, you will attend a pre-departure orientation. These sessions give you a chance to meet other students who will be going abroad and covers:

  • Academic requirements
  • Next steps for enrolling at your partner university
  • Visa information
  • Student finance details
  • Accommodation
  • Travel planning

You may also want to set up a virtual meeting with your partner university to get answers to any outstanding questions.
