What is CCRS?
CCRS stands for the Catholic Certificate in Religious Studies and is awarded by the Board of Religious Studies on behalf of the Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales. It is an important certificate for teachers wishing to teach in a Catholic school, and a key qualification for professional development. The CCRS gives each person a theological literacy and enables them to understand and contribute to the ethos of a Catholic school.
To obtain your certificate all 8 modules have to be completed, each with up to 10 hours lecture time and an assessment essay or presentation. The 12 month programme provides a pathway of options to enable you to complete required 6 core and 2 specialist modules, offered through a combination of evening classes, intensive courses or as elements of your teaching degree.

Firstly ALL students will need to complete and return the registration form to CCRS Administration office F201 on either Wednesday 21st September (12-2pm) or Thursday 22nd September (12 – 2pm)
Full annual registration is £300, this includes all 8 module options, course reader, an annual attendance certificate and a final laminate certificate on completion of programme issued from the Board of Religious Studies. Further details on fees and concessions are listed on back page.

Your registration form will ask you to confirm your places on module options in order for you to complete the programme, modules have been grouped together on the form to help guide you through your choices and obtain your full CCRS Certificate.

Evening Classes:
3 modules are offered as evening classes, these are;
Old Testament, Evening class, October 2011
4 x sessions:
New Testament, Evening Class, November 2011
5 x sessions:
Christology, Evening Class, January 2012

The following 3 modules are offered at Spring School.
The Course will run Monday – Friday 9.15am-4.15pm. For each module you will be timetabled and expected to attend 10 hours lecture time during the week. To complete each module you will be requested to either participate in a group presentation during the week, or produce a 1500 word essay with a 6 week submission date.

2 Options are offered at Summer School.
Option 1: The following 3 modules are offered as option 1 at Summer School. These are; Old Testament, New Testament and Christology.
Option 2: The following 3 modules are offered as option 2. These are; The Church, Sacraments and Christian Morality.
During the Summer School week you can choose either Option 1 or Option 2, but not from both options as they will be running side by side. The course will run Monday-Friday 9.15am-4.15pm. If you are a PGCE Primary student, you can complete 2 specialist modules as part of your studies, these are RE1 and RE2, please make sure your lecturer is aware that you wish your marks to be allocated to CCRS.
If you are a PGCE Secondary student specialising in RE, the completion of your course will award you with 2 specialist modules; Professional Studies 1 and Professional Studies 2, please make sure your lecturer is aware that you wish your marks to be allocated to CCRS.
All students on this course can complete 2 specialist modules during the first year. These are RE1 and RE2, please make sure your lecturer is aware that you wish your marks to be allocated to CCRS. As a BAITT student, if you elect to take RE as a specialist subject you have further options to complete CCRS modules as part of your studies. For more information on this please speak with your tutor or contact me (details below).
BAITT Registration Day: This will be in the second semester. Date to be advised via the CCRS noticeboard in K Block or on this page.
Please Note your unique CCRS Number, (this is issued by the Board of Religious Studies via St Mary's), will remain valid for 5 years, however your registration on the CCRS programme at St Mary's will remain valid only for the duration of your teaching programme. Single module registration is no longer available at St Mary's.
