MPhil / PhD Opportunities

We welcome MPhil / PhD proposals in the following areas:

  • Pastoral Theology and Spirituality
  • Biblical Scholarship
  • Modern Philosophy
  • Early-Modern European, Ottoman and Asian History
  • Modern British and American Cultural and Political History

Interested persons should write, preferably after initial discussions with one of the teaching staff in the School, to the Academic Director, setting out a proposal in accordance with Guidelines set out below. 

Guidelines for Initial Dissertation Proposal

Proposals should contain the following information:

  • The specific discipline in which the research is to be undertaken  (e.g. Medieval History, Moral Philosophy, Patristics, Pastoral Theology)
  • Overall aim: research question(s) to be tackled. Please be as specific as you can.
  • Specific objectives – how the aim(s) will be fulfilled, state four or five
  • The relationship of the proposed research to published work in the area.
  • The principal primary/archival source material/data to be collected and investigated
  • Key references ( normally up to 6 key books and/or articles)
  • Proposed methodology ( including, where appropriate, key methodology texts or proposed strategy e.g. interviews)
  • Facilities and locations available for the investigation ( e.g. local libraries)
  • The name(s) of a suggested or preferred supervisor with whom you wish to work, who is on the staff of the School or is one of its close associates.

This proposal should be accompanied by a CV detailing current academic qualifications and relevant experience where appropriate.
