The Psychology degree at St Mary’s provides you with a scientific understanding of mind, brain and behaviour, and of the complex interactions among these factors that determine the human condition and experience. Alongside the academic content of the programme you will gain transferable skills.
You will develop a capacity for self-directed, reflective learning and project management, characterised by planning; effective use of a variety of cognitive and practical skills; self-evaluation; and effective problem-solving in response to identified need.
The Single Honours in Psychology and the major route in Psychology are accredited as conferring eligibility for the Graduate Basis for Registration with the British Psychological Society provided the minimum standard of qualification of second class honours is achieved.
The staff is research active, and their work covers areas such as the psychological effects of brain damage, attentional biases associated with anxiety, cognitive processing in expertise, face perception and eyewitness identification, intergrational relationships within the family context, and factors and perceptions in social inequality. Third year students can find their research projects presented at national and international conferences, an impressive addition to their CVs.
