Applicants With Conditional Offers

If you are holding a conditional offer with St Mary’s, this means that we are waiting to see whether you meet the conditions that we have set for you. Click on the questions below to open / close the answers to these frequently asked questions.

• What do I need to do next?

Students who have offers involving the following qualifications will not need to take any action:

  • A Levels
  • BTEC Qualifications
  • International Baccalaureate
  • Irish Highers
  • Scottish Highers

The results of these qualifications are transmitted to us via the UCAS system. If we don't receive your results from UCAS, we'll contact you.

We'll inform UCAS as soon as possible of our decision on your application, this will appear on the UCAS website from Thursday 18th August.

Students who have an offer, conditional on gaining other qualifications:
Students who hold offers that are conditional on other courses will need to send their results in to us as soon as possible. These courses include:

  • Access courses
  • GCSEs
  • Short Courses
  • Courses from other universities

We will not be able to confirm your offer until we have seen your results, so please send the information to us at:

Undergraduate Admissions
St Mary’s University College
Waldegrave Road
Twickenham
TW1 4SX

This information should be sent as soon as possible. If you're having difficulty getting your results, please contact us at admit@smuc.ac.uk.

If we have not seen your results or heard from you by 31st August, your offer is likely to be withdrawn.

• What happens once results are received?

Confirmation of conditional offers starts for A Level students in the week of Thursday 18th August. Universities receive A Level results on Sunday 14th August and have some time to make decisions before applicants can view the outcome on the UCAS website, starting on Thursday 18th August.

Applicants studying BTEC or other qualifications may hear from us earlier than this, depending on when we receive your results.

Candidates who've met the conditions in full. If you're in this position, we'll confirm your place and send you details about starting your course straight away. We look forward to welcoming you to the University College at the start of semester.

Candidates who've not met their offer but have achieved at least two grade E passes at A Level (or equivalent.) If you're in this category, we may still be able to offer you a place on your original course. If so, we'll endeavour to inform UCAS and send you details about the start of the semester by Friday 26th August .

If your first choice of course is full, we may offer you an alternative course. If that's not possible, your application will be rejected so that you can enter the UCAS clearing process, provided you are not holding any other offers.

Candidates who've not achieved two grade E passes at A Level (or equivalent). If you're in this position, we're afraid that we'll not be able to offer you a place for this academic year. We'll inform UCAS accordingly and if you're not holding any other offers, you'll be eligible to enter clearing.

• What happens if no decision is on the UCAS website on 18th August?

This year, competition for places at St Mary's is very high.

In some cases, if you've not met your offer conditions, we may not make an immediate decision. This will mean that we're waiting for other results before being able to decide whether we're able to confirm your place.

Remember, if we're able to offer you a place, we will. In some cases, this process will take some time. Please be patient, we'll be moving as quickly as we possibly can towards making decision on all applicants.

• I've changed my mind about come to St Mary’s – what should I do?

Although this is not a decision to be taken lightly, if you've changed your mind about coming here or wish to defer your place to 2012, we'd be grateful if you could let us know as soon as you can. This will allow us to offer your place to another applicant.

All that you need to do is email our Undergraduate Admissions Officer at admit@smuc.ac.uk, including your UCAS number and clearly stating what you wish us to do.
