Weekend of Success for St Mary’s Athletes

It was a successful weekend is sport for St Mary’s University College, Twickenham after athletes secured medals in a number of events across the country.

Final year Sports Science student Corrine Hall, who has won several competitions in recent months including the Belgium Paracycling Tour and the BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport) Track Cycling Championships, took another Gold medal at the Paracycling World Cup in Segovia, Spain with tandem partner Lora Turnham. In Alanya, Turkey, Strength and Conditioning Science student Joe Townsend won a Bronze medal at the European Paratriathlon Championships. He completed the course in 1:12:34, just missing out on a Silver medal. The British Under 20 and Under 23 Weightlifting Championships in Glasgow, Scotland also took place over the weekend. Daniel English won Gold in the U20 105kg category, whilst Stuart Diplock took Silver in the U20 85kg category. Adam Mattiussi, who was favourite to take Gold, missed out on a medal after failing to make a lift in the snatch event.
