Biography

Rik holds BSc (Hons) degrees in Sport Science and Sport Rehabilitation and an MSc in Applied Biomechanics as well as a PGCHE in academic practice.

He has 15 years+ experience in private practice in the field of injury screening, profiling, and rehabilitation and conditioning with private clients; mainly within endurance sports and support team experience with British Triathlon, traveling to two World Championships.

Rik joined St Mary's in 2006 and is a Senior Lecturer delivering musculoskeletal anatomy, human movement, sport injury, and rehabilitation/ conditioning content to Foundation, BSc, and MSc programmes in Sports Coaching, Sports Science, and Strength and Conditioning.

Rik is studying for a PhD in Bioanthropology with Cambridge University researching skeletal plasticity and adaptation to extreme habitual athletic activities in relation to evolutionary concepts of the lower limb and foot.

Additionally, Rik is a Level 2 triathlon coach and works in the private sector and is an Accredited Strength and Conditioning Coach (ASCC) with the UKSCA and has supported athletes from the national TASS programme as well as individual clients in a range of rehabilitation and conditioning via clinics at St Mary's University and elsewhere.

Away from work, Rik enjoys his family, bikes, lakes or rivers, mountains, and long-distance swimming, running, or cycling events.
